Moulded from plastic in one piece, lightweight, stackable, patent-free, cheap: the Monobloc. The idea of producing a chair from one piece of material was an exciting challenge for designers. The first designs for this kind of chair arose in the mid-20th century. The idea stuck, went into production from the mid-1960s onwards, became stackable as well, and has adapted to the market since the 1970s in line with the technical possibilities. Today, average production costs lie at around 2.50 euros. The plastic chair is considered one of the most widespread products globally.
